Technical Outerwear Wear Containing Integrated LilyPad Sensing and Reporting Platform
Almost all modern technical apparel are constructed using advance waterproof/breathable materials or coatings which keep water out, but allow body moisture to pass through. This feature, along with zip vents helps keep the user comfortable and cool during strenuous activities in wet/cold conditions. Thus far, there is no way to chat how well these materials perform. Granted, such information is probable not useful to average customer, but there are a few who would like to have such information. For example, there is already a market for watches which measure temp, heart rate etc. This is where the LPTekx concept comes in.
LPTekx combines recent innovations in smartphones, wearable computers (LilyPad), and specifically designed technical outerwear apparel, to obtain real time performance data of the combined apparel and user system. The performance data will consist of temperature, humidity, and motion sensing (from smartphone). Integration with the users smartphone will be done through the headphone jack using. A totally integrated solution is needed since sewing conductive threads through an waterproof garment will surely allow water to get through.
In the end this projects hopes to achieve a design approach that combines form with function. All funding will be acquired through a Kickstarter or similar crowd funding project.
